Replacing a background vs removing one
These are two different jobs and people often reach for the wrong one. Removing the background gives you a transparent PNG — right when the image will sit on a page, a slide, or a template whose colour you don't control. Replacing it gives you a flat, finished photo — right when something downstream demands a specific backdrop and will reject a transparent file. Getting a clean edge

Two things help more than any setting: even, diffuse lighting (window light beats a flash) and a starting background that already differs in tone from the subject — a dark jacket against a dark sofa is genuinely ambiguous. If a stray halo survives, it is usually the old background's colour bleeding through; picking a replacement colour in the same tonal family hides it, and re-shooting against a plainer wall fixes it properly.
